toquechi
toquechicago is an ensemble dedicated to the exposure of Afro-Cuban folkloric music. The core members of the ensemble are strongly rooted in Afro-Cuban music, having studied with renown Afro-Cuban masters such as the late Jesus Alphonso from Matanzas and Regino Jimenez from Havana. All of the members of toquechicago are all well known percussionists and musicians that come from a variety of musical styles and genres.
Our belief is that much of the today's music is a result of the world becoming a smaller place. Folkloric Afro-Cuban music is a prime example of that phenomenon. It has also grown to become a strong influence on today's music.
Historical importance aside, the music (comprised of drumming and singing) is likely to move and exite any listener.
toquechicago is here to share this very beautiful and important musical form.
Musicians: Janet Cramer, Jean-Christophe Leroy,
Bob Garet, Doug Brush, Alejo Poveda,
